The European radar ocean sensing project

Two deployments of the WERA HF radar have taken place: Fedje near Bergen in Norway in Winter 2000 and Gijon, Spain in Autumn 2000. The HF radar data together with data from WAMOS radars were assimilated into models to provide nowcasts of sea conditions for use by the local port and harbour managers. The University of Sheffield inversion software was running on site in real time.

Maps of measurements of wave parameters were presented on this web site updated every 10 minutes during the experiments. A sample of these data can be seen at the link above. Detailed intercomparisons of all the data and the wave model have been published.
